Constipation

Constipation is not only for adult, I realized. I don’t know if this condition can be inherited, if so, my daughter probably get it from me then.

Since my daughter’s milk was changed, (she used to be Kapanatag, but we switched to EnfaGrow – will tell some other time the reason), she always having difficulty defecating. If you see her doing her labor, you will really pity her. She’s all Red and really in pain but she don’t want to be helped. This might also be the reason why she does want to poo in her potty nor in the toilet bowl. There were even times that there were traces of blood in her poops. My husband were planning to try another milk again if her this condition has no improvement.

The information I got from my What to Expect subscription is very timely. Included in my subscription is an article about about Toddler’s Poop Problem. I know that my daughter is not alone in this condition. You might be on the same boat too but was not able to receive the email subscription. I am sharing this because it might help you.

Symptoms

Constipation does not mean going a few days without pooping. The true and obvious symptom of constipation is when you child is producting small, round and hard stool. Very similar to goat’s stool. Another sign that your child is blocked up is when you see your child’s face scrunching, extra grunting, and having difficulty pushing that poop.

Reasons

  • Your child’s diet may not contain high-fiber foods.
  • Your child’s fluid intake is not enough.
  • Or simply ignore the urge to poop.

Tactics

  • Serve high-fiber foods such as fresh fruits, dried fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Offer four to six ounces a day of prune juice or pear juice until the problem clears up.
  • Encourage your child to drink water to help soften stools.
  • Go easy on high-fat foods as well as those that are high in sugar; they can be binding.
  • Make sure your child is exercising regularly, even if it’s just a quick romp in the backyard or an after-dinner walk up the street. This will help get his digestive system to move things along.
  • If all else fails, ask your pediatrician about giving your toddler a stool softener such as MiraLAX or Metamucil. And as a last resort, you might consider a laxative.

I hope these information helps. If you want more detailed info, you may visit What To Expect site.

  1. our daughter has this problem when she was a baby and its agonizing to see her every time she would go.. Now our son has it too.. thanks for the tips!

  2. naku momi i can totally relate. Thea's pupu is exactly how you described it- and nakakaaawa talaga kapag she's trying to get it out… Her pedia told me that her UTI could be becoz of constipation. And i think hereditary din kasi me and my mom constipated din.

And i totally agree, its all about the diet talaga. So thank God three days in a row na kami improved ang pupu niya and hopefully magtuloy tuloy na talaga.

  3. i am sorry to hear that your daughter is constipated.. its really hard when our kids are suffering…
