Child Rearing

Falling Out Of Bed

  • Sumo

My eldest daughter, Jyma Sciezka, turns five last May. Earlier this year, I have started convincing her to sleep on a different bed but still in the same room with us.  She can sleep in her bed alone for months now without any problem. I can see that she also enjoys it. She no longer insists to sleep beside me. But recently since we bought her new mattress, she often falls out of the bed in the middle of the night 🙁 Sometimes I woke up when she fell but there were times that when I woke up she was already beside me.  My only consolation is that our room’s floor is made of wood so she was not that hurt. But still I don’t think it is healthy that she keeps on falling. I already asked hubby to add a railing on the side of the bed to avoid this incident. But while waiting for Husband to do this, I decided to allow my daughter to sleep with us on our mattress. Anyway, it will not be forever that she will be sleeping with us so I might as well enjoy and cherish the times that she wants to sleep beside us.

  1. My daughter fell off the bed many times, Alhamdulillah Thanks God no severe damage. At their age where crawling is one of their major things to do, I can’t help but be nervous most of the time. Why don’t u put also a pillow at the floor so just in case she fell off, something soft will catch her.

  2. Oh my, I dread the day that my little girl will be in a different room. I wonder how I’d feel!

I agree, the railings should help your little one from falling off the bed in the middle of the night. good luck!

  3. Take it easy Sis. Just find a way to address that problem. My daughter still sleeps with me on bed even she’s quite big already.

  4. My two boys, 4 and 6 yrs old, “swim” when they sleep so hubby and I decided to deter our plan of buying them their own bed. Until now, we still sleep on the floor using a 6-inch mattress. 🙂

  5. There’s a railing you can buy at the baby’s section in any department store. They’re safety rails that are very easy to use (no installation required) and clean. We bought ours when the kids were still babies. Around 4 years ago, it costs only less than 1K.

  6. i have a cousin, super likot matulog.. one day, we were looking for him, nsa ilalim na pala siya ng bed. haha i think putting a rail will prevent her from falling.. 🙂

  7. waaaah…. I dread the day when my daughter has to sleep in her own bed. (separation anxiety)…

You should have that rail sis. Wawa naman si baby. 🙂

  8. we’ve also trained our son to sleep on his own bed besides our bed but i think he’s not ready yet because he keeps on waking up…I agree with you that our children will not be forever sleeping with us so why not cherish the moment.I’m sure we gonna miss co-sleeping when they grow up.
