Panglao Is Way Far From A Being Modernized City

  • Sumo

Have I told you that Panglao is considered a remote area? It is still far from the definition of a modernized city. There are no big establishments here: no malls, no supermarkets and not even a hospital. So I don’t expect so much modernization from this town especially in our baranggay but I was surprised to know that the only gasoline station here in Poblacion is using a retail POS system in their convenience store. What an advance technology for a convenience store which is not even open for 24 hours a day.

Panglao is way far from what is called a progressive town. There are so many infrastructure and facilities which need to be constructed. I think the local government could start with the proper waste management system. I’ve been here in Panglao for more than a year and yet I haven’t seen a single garbage truck which collects the household wastes. So the locals’ way to dispose the garbage is through burying and burning which is very harmful to the environment. No wonder there are garbage hills everywhere. I wonder how the resorts dispose their wastes.

The second thing that I really wish the local government will give attention to is the drainage system. There is no other means to dispose the water wastes but to leave them on the backyard which becomes the habitation of the mosquitoes. This is one reason why there are so many mosquitoes here.

There are still many things that this town need. And I hope that the next set of local government officials will pay attention to the need of the town to make it a better place not only for the tourists but most especially for the locals.

  1. Hi Mylene! There are people I know who are supposedly in talks now with the Poblacion Council n terms of garbage collection and disposal and then turning them into soil and crop fertilizers. Will keep you posted.

    1. That is great new! Problema ko po talaga yan dito, sigh! For now, I am trying to minimize our wastes by composing. I used the broken mineral water container. I filled it with some soil for base then put there our vegetables and fruit wastes then fill it again with soil. The container is almost full now ๐Ÿ™ I wish I could find another container to use.
