Bringing Up Girls: Practical Advice and Encouragement for Those Shaping the Next Generation of Women

  • Sumo

It was last August when I accidentally learned about Bringing Up Girls: Practical Advice and Encouragement for Those Shaping the Next Generation of Women through one of my Google searches. My interest pique because it is another book authored by James C. Dobson, the author of Dare To Discipline and The Strong-Willed Child, and because the book was specifically for raising up girls which I have two.

I was excited to have a copy of the book but I was not sure if it was available locally so I decided to look for an affordable e-book. The lowest price I found was from Kobo which was $10.79.  I tried to look for a coupon to further lessen the price. Luckily I found the thankyou2012 coupon from dealspl.us which lowered the price by 35%. So the amount I paid was only $7.01.

I highly recommend this book not only to parents with daughter(s) but also to all ladies. Parents and ladies might get a thing or two from the book because its 22 chapters are composed of facts, observations, analysis, recommendations and actual experiences of other women, parents and daughters about the wonderful world of girls. If you are a parent like me who has daughters, this book will help you understand your little girls more, thus appreciate them more. The recommendations presented by Dr. Dobson were supported with sensible reasons. You might want to take some of  Dr. Dobson’s advices and apply them with your own princesses. If you are a lady, I’m sure you that you can relate to one of more observations and facts presented by Dr. Dobson. If you don’t have a daughter but you have a son, don’t worry because Dr. Dobson actually wrote a much earlier version for boys, the Bringing Up Boys. He wrote the book two years earlier than Bringing Up Girls.

I am planning to post a summary of each chapter to encourage you to read the book but I’m not sure if I’ll have the time. So let see.

  1. Being a mother of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) I would love to get my hands on both books. However, I might not be able to read them at all because I’d be trying to catch some sleep every so often. But these sound like a good read. Thanks!

  2. My dad successfully brought up three wonderful girls and I’m so proud of him doing it all alone. We all graduated from prestigious universities under scholarship programs since we came from a poor family. After all, it’s a wonderful journey of rearing up three girls. When my time comes, I want t have a guy somehow. haha.. 🙂

  3. I’m more interested in Bringing Up Boys for now…I’ll try to search for free copies too. Thank you.

  5. That’s quite interesting. I admire mothers like you who keep on evolving as a parent, finding more and more ways to become better parents. 🙂

  6. I have two girls and I think this would be a very interesting read. Will ask around if people from my Kindelirium group in facebook have it.

I’m not really sure. Kung taga Manila ka, you may want to check the leading bookstore. This book is a must-read 🙂
