Lack of Interest to Practice

  • Sumo

My daughter is blessed to have a good ear for notes. She started singing Gospel kids songs when she was three. And she was not shy to sing on stage to render her song offering. Until now she still sings. I encourage her to learn at least one song every month for her to render as a song offering.

At her age I don’t know yet if she has a talent on musical instruments. I tried to teach her the notes for the melody of “Jesus Loves Me” last summer using her toy organ. I got the notes from a kid’s song book. She learned the first stanza and the chorus fast. The problem was she lacked the interest to practice. Probably in the future, if she will be exposed to unique instruments, she will gain the interest to learn how to play them.

  1. I think that’s normal to kids, to not paying so much focus in everything we have something to teach them. That is just the same to my 3 year old son. If we’ll teach him or refresh him with the numbers and alphabet and the short choruses we have taught him, he’ll just divert himself to anything else.

But hopefully our kids will have that interest soon in learning things especially to music. I want my son too to be a music person, not necessarily to become a musician (but if he will, why not), but a someone who appreciates music.

So let’s just be patient with our kids.

  2. Let your child watch shows that plays organ so that she will be interested in relearning that or even practicing more. I am not a kid, but I know how to play an organ. But because I am too lazy to practice I have forgotten the piece I’m learning. When I saw the movie, Nodame Cantabele (I don’t know if I spelled it correctly), my want to learn and master organ playing booms. ๐Ÿ˜€

She’ still a kid, so don’t worry about it.
